Al Gore Ponders If Bullying from Trump Prompted Bill Gates' Environmental Reversal

The climate advocate has speculated that concern of facing pressure from Donald Trump may have driven the Microsoft founder to row back on his climate crisis advocacy.

Describing Trump as “an exceptionally unethical commander-in-chief”, Gore warned that the president’s endorsement of fossil fuels and withdrawal from clean power is “severely harming” the American economic system.

Climate Damage and Economic Impact

In an discussion at the UN climate conference in Belém, Gore remarked, “The president’s currently causing a lot of damage to the environment. Maybe the largest impact he’s doing is to the U.S. itself.”

He pointed out that the Asian nation is now selling eco-friendly innovations with a total sales figure that surpasses all oil and gas shipments from the United States, a pattern that is accelerating rapidly.

Bill Gates’ Controversial Shift

The tech billionaire, formerly a prominent advocate in climate action, recently argued for moving the environmental emergency to a lower priority, in favor of health issues.

Gore expressed confusion at this shift, saying, “The idea of slowing down on climate further surprised environmental experts that I know and respect.”

“Yes, the president approves. It’s possible what the billionaire aimed at.”

Gore observed that after the president’s return to office, Gates fired the majority of his environmental team, visited the presidential residence, and lavished praise on Trump.

Fear of Reprisal

Gore theorized that Gates, like other ultra-wealthy business people, may be concerned of facing retaliation by Trump. “It may be that he is really worried that the president will target him,” Gore stated.

Trump reacted to Gates’ reversal with praiseful social media posts.

Gore added, “The only rave review of what he released last week was from Donald Trump. Yes, he approves. Perhaps what he intended.”

Rejecting a False Choice

Gore underscored that presenting the climate crisis and worldwide health issues as opposing choices is misguided.

“The idea that there is a either-or decision between health and climate has been widely dismissed by virtually every scientist in this field,” he stated.

“It’s completely irrational that governments are requiring citizens to subsidise the destruction of part of humanity’s future.”

Gore pointed out that the Lancet published a report on the same day as Gates’ announcement, detailing the significant wellness impacts of inaction on climate.

A Call for Redirected Funding

Rather than diverting funds from environmental initiatives, Gore suggested that Gates should push for redirecting the massive sums spent on oil and gas support toward health and climate solutions.

“Accelerating solutions to the climate crisis is one of the single most effective ways to improve healthcare in the world,” he stated.

Defending the UN Climate Process

Gore robustly defended the annual Cop meetings, explaining that they achieve significant results than they are given credit for.

“The Cop process acts as a nucleus for industry and NGO groups that gather annually,” he said. “Numerous groups come up with their own agreements that advance progress.”

“These international meetings is one of the key factors that the green transition has accelerated significantly.”

He continued that businesses and nations are pushing ahead with innovations and adopting renewable energy and other eco-friendly projects.

Optimistic Trends and Shifting Attitudes

Gore highlighted what he sees as a “shift in attitudes” in the United States, with many people embracing climate action even as the national leadership undoes them.

He cautioned that Trump might face a “less obsequious” Congress following recent voting losses for Republican candidates.

“There’s a completely false view out there that somehow we are losing ground.”

Gore praised the progressive politician for his effective campaign for NYC leadership, noting that while he did not agree with some of his ideas, his political skills were impressively on display.

A Visual Warning at Cop30

At the summit, Gore presented delegates with a visual presentation of devastation linked to the climate crisis.

In front of a huge projection screen showing pictures of recent disasters exacerbated by global heating, Gore declared, “It is literally insane that we are allowing this to continue.”

He raised his voice while showing images of record drought in the Amazon, Greenland shedding its ice, and destructive storms in Vietnam, Jamaica, South America, the Philippines, and the U.S..

“How long are we going to stand by and keep increasing temperatures so that these sort of events get even worse?” he questioned.

Adaptation, Mitigation, and Realism

Gore emphasized the need to both adapt and mitigate, but warned that if this irrational behavior continues—treating the atmosphere as a dump—some things will be very difficult to adapt to.

Promoting Climate Trace

His main focus at the summit has been to advocate for the Climate Trace project, which monitors planet-heating emissions and harmful substances causing health problems worldwide.

“There is great enthusiasm about these new tools,” Gore stated. “We possess the tools and the deployment models. A few individuals think we lack the political will, but as I like to point out, political will is a renewable resource.”
