Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than a 27-year term in jail, but he was staying under house arrest pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after "new facts" were revealed.

This encompassed attempting to break his tracking device and a call for a public vigil that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the magistrate said data from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the former leader's aim to disable the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on the weekend.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on last Friday: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or see it all from your mobile device there on your settee? I call on you to struggle with us."

He said the vigil would be so backers could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the judge's ruling was the possibility of the former president's "relocation to diplomatic missions near the dwelling, considering that the inquiries revealed a background of arranging to ask for protection through a embassy office", a statement said.

The court filing underscores that the American diplomatic mission in the national capital, the capital city, is located around 8 miles from the former president's residence.

Worldwide Consequences

His judicial problems have provoked anger from fellow populist conservative United States President Trump, causing him to impose a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

Bolsonaro is being held in a national police facility in Brazil's capital city and will have a custody hearing on Sunday.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Supreme Court to permit him to serve his whole jail sentence under home confinement, with tracking devices.

They also requested that the former president be authorized to leave his home for medical treatment, saying he needed regular treatment for lung conditions and other health problems.

Details of Guilty Verdict

The former president was convicted of orchestrating a scheme aimed at keeping him in power after he was defeated in the presidential race to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Top judicial officials said that he had knowledge of a scheme which included plans to kill the current president and his VP candidate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to detain and kill the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been managing the former president's case.

The plot was stopped because it couldn't obtain the support of the armed forces officials. His successor was inaugurated without incident on the first day of 2023.

But a following week, on January 8th, many Bolsonaro supporters invaded and destroyed official structures in the national capital, Brasília.

The law enforcement intervened and around approximately 1,500 persons were detained.

The magistrates found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by Bolsonaro whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to intervene, restore order and bring him back to power.

At the time, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the over 27-year sentence extremely harsh.

He was also banned from campaigning for office until the year 2060 - eight years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The ex-leader called the court case a "witch hunt and said it was aimed at blocking him participating in the 2026 presidential election.
