Around twenty-five thousand homes in Queensland's southeast were left experiencing outages on Monday morning after intense storm systems impacted the area, producing strong winds hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Broad Impact

Residents reported giant hailstones as large as seven centimeters in particular locations. Meteorological experts confirmed that multiple regions across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

Victorian Climate Difficulties

Simultaneously, nearly 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also faced power outages after Melbourne recorded its wettest day in 18 months.

State Emergency Services responded to nearly 600 requests for assistance across the region, mainly for property damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

• Wyndham area - nearly 180 emergency requests

During the peak on the previous day, in excess of 28k electricity consumers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were predicted to continue along much of Queensland's east this next several days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

The following day was expected to become the wettest day, with continued severe weather risk predicted across multiple regions of both areas.

Public health experts alerted that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, particularly given the current weather patterns.
